A targeted fix for a microphone bug some of you could hit during a recording, plus a small visibility improvement in the recording window.

Changing the mic mode mid-recording no longer leaves the microphone stuck on

If you switched your microphone’s mode while recording — for example flipping it to Voice Isolation in Control Center — the app could hang and, worse, leave the microphone open even after you quit, with the orange mic indicator still lit. The only way out was a reboot.

The cause: when macOS reports an audio-device change, it stops our audio engine. We were marking the recording as stopped but, because of how that signal was wired, the code that actually releases the microphone never ran. Beta9 separates “capture has stopped” from “the hardware still needs releasing,” so the mic is always freed — immediately, the moment the change is detected. The meeting is saved with everything captured up to that point, exactly as it was before.

This is the same family of mid-recording device changes covered in beta8 (plugging in headphones, swapping to a USB mic); beta9 closes the case where the device stayed the same but its mode changed.

The recording window now shows which mic you’re on

The floating recording window now displays the current input device under the timer, refreshed live. If your AirPods auto-connect or the input quietly switches mid-meeting, you’ll see it right away instead of discovering it later from a transcript that captured the wrong source.
