Summaries no longer require an account anywhere.

Your Mac can write the summary

Apple ships a language model on the device now, and Minutiva can use it. No API key, no account, no cost, no network — and for the first time since summaries existed in this app, the transcript doesn’t leave the machine to become one.

It’s opt-in: Settings → Providers → Use for summary → This Mac. If you already configured a provider, nothing changed — your meetings keep going where they were going until you decide otherwise.

What it’s good at, and what it isn’t

It reads a transcript and gives you a short summary, the decisions, and the action items — and it’s genuinely good at the last one. Owners and due dates came back correct on a test meeting where people talked over each other.

It is much weaker at judging what was settled. Asked for open questions it returned questions that had been answered a minute later; asked for risks it produced “Accessibility risks. Design risks.” So it doesn’t report those at all. A summary with one field you learn to distrust is a summary you stop reading.

Long meetings are fine

The on-device model only takes about ten minutes of speech at a time, so Minutiva splits the transcript, summarises each part and merges the result — overlapping the pieces, because conversations tend to conclude exactly where a cut would land.

The trade-off is that it never sees the whole meeting at once, so it can tell you what was decided but not how the conversation got there. A connected AI provider still reads the whole thing in one pass, which is now a real reason to use one rather than the only way to get anything.
